چکیده
Abstract The problem of corrosion in the industrial oil and gas pipes has been one major contributors catastrophic structural failures. Among various types corrosion, under insulation (CUI) known to cause serious problems. Pulsed eddy current (PEC) non-destructive testing shown its effectiveness detecting hidden CUI. Most PEC systems have developed by using an inductive coil as their sensing device, while some use a magnetic sensor which potentially offers better resolution. A new probe design based on solid-state Tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) is presented. TMR sensors offer higher sensitivities compared other commercially available sensors. performance evaluated ferromagnetic mild steel plates that thicknesses range 8mm 12mm at different stand-offs with thin aluminium sheet probe. represent levels, are mimic cladding real pipeline structure. results show overall mean absolute error (MAE) 0.19 mm, than our existing Hall-device-based

Corrosion Steel Inspection under Steel Plate Using Pulsed Eddy Current Testing
Pulsed eddy current inspection techniques were derived from the conventional eddy current testing technology, based on the fundamental principle of an eddy current coil, but using periodic ultrasound pulses. The authors first introduce the principle of pulsed eddy current inspection and some experimental measurement results using pulsed eddy current equipment. This technology can be applied to ...

متن کاملAn Eddy Current Testing Platform System for Pipe Defect Inspection Based on an Optimized Eddy Current Technique Probe Design
The use of the eddy current technique (ECT) for the non-destructive testing of conducting materials has become increasingly important in the past few years. The use of the non-destructive ECT plays a key role in the ensuring the safety and integrity of the large industrial structures such as oil and gas pipelines. This paper introduce a novel ECT probe design integrated with the distributed ECT...
متن کاملEddy Current Testing with Giant Magnetoresistance (GMR) Sensors and a Pipe-Encircling Excitation for Evaluation of Corrosion under Insulation
This work investigates an eddy current-based non-destructive testing (NDT) method to characterize corrosion of pipes under thermal insulation, one of the leading failure mechanisms for insulated pipe infrastructure. Artificial defects were machined into the pipe surface to simulate the effect of corrosion wall loss. We show that by using a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensor array and a high c...
